The North Franklin Snowmobile Club began in the late 1960's with a group of dedicated
snowmobile enthusiasts wanting to put the Western Mountains of Maine on the map.  Like
today, snowmobiling was a family affair.  The members blazed trails and worked their way
towards connecting with surrounding towns and formed the I.T.S. (Interconnecting Trail
System), which still exists today as ITS 84 and 89.  The trails have been significantly widened to
accommodate the 9'6, 270cc Piston Bully Groomers where in the past personal sleds and bed
springs groomed the trails.  Back then the club had no reimbursement from the state.  They did
it voluntarily and paid for everything out of their own pocket, except for the allowance of one belt
for their sled per year.  The trail maintenance and grooming hours done by volunteers today are
now turned in to reimburse the club for it's funding.  Assets include 2 PB 270 Trail Groomers
with full mogul master drags, 2 brand new Skidoo 500 double wide long track grooming sleds
which are used for packing and smaller club trails.  Our latest addition, the "Sled Shed" is used
to keep all the trail maintenance equipment, signing supplies, and parts all under cover.  Our
goal is to have a big enough pole barn to house our groomers from the elements and a place to
work on them out of foul weather.  All of this is made possible by two very important assets -
members/volunteers and land owners.   These are key to a successful snowmobiling
organization.  Everybody plays a very important part of keeping the wheels of progress turning.
Our "family" is committed to promoting longevity of the North Franklin Snowmobile Club.

If you enjoy riding the trail system, show your support by volunteering to lend a hand on a trail
project or donate to one of the clubs fund raisers.  We ask the when riding our trails you respect
the trail in order to maintain the security of our trail systems.  A lot of hard work, time and
planning go into having an efficient functioning club.

We welcome new members that share the interest of snowmobiling, cross country skiing, dog
sledding or just strolling along on well groomed trails.
Currently our club consists of approximately 170 members.

Our trails have sufficient space for all wanting to explore some of the magnificent scenery that
our area has to offer.  Want to take a direct route to Peace and Tranquility, ride our trail systems.
Be prepared to be amazed!

Our club abides by the Maine Snowmobiling Association rules of safety.
